Well, there’s a reason we used quotation marks there. As it stands, there’s no widely recognized or regulated standard for what constitutes a clean beauty product. This means the word “clean” can mean different things to different people—and different brands and different retailers—which causes confusion at best and misinformation and fearmongering at worst. So, almost six years ago, Allure developed its own clean beauty standard to make it crystal clear what we mean every time we designate something as “clean.”
All 15 beauty products on this list meet Allure‘s clean standard, but that’s not why you honored them with Readers’ Choice Awards this year.
