When Christina Aguilera dropped her album Stripped in 2002, she was going through a metamorphosis—leaving her Disney teen-pop self behind and becoming a confident artist and woman. Her look was changing too; no longer was she wearing her hair in a sweet, curled-under blonde bob, but instead she went for a polarizing blend of platinum blonde and black highlights. (I was a huge fan, BTW.) The black-and-blonde combo became an instantly recognizable token of the Stripped era, but the singer just gave it a very colorful spin for 2025.
For a show in São Paulo, Brazil, Aguilera looked to the country’s flag for inspiration. Instead of black streaks, Aguilera opted for a vibrant palette of neons woven into her signature bright, pale blonde hair: canary yellow, bright lime green, and turquoise, styled by Igor Rosales. If you saw her from the front, you’d think she was simply blonde, but once she turned around, her hair exploded in color. The turquoise shade began at the crown of her head, mingling with the blonde, with the green and yellow shades comprising most of her lower layers. Makeup artist Hector Espinal placed gemstones all over her eyes, including a cluster at the outer corners and a precise lineup across the crease, then finished with a cool gray-mauve lip color.
This isn’t the first time Xtina has revived a look from her decades-long career. In August 2024, she brought back the actual Stripped black-and-blonde hair color duo and made fans think she time traveled back twenty years. She threw it back to 1999 with a flippy bob, then celebrated Halloween with a head full of voluminous spiral ringlets similar to those she wore back in her TRL days. But hey, if you had this many iconic hairstyles in your back catalog, you’d want to revisit them too, right?
