Did you ever go through a rock-collecting phase when you were a kid? I totally did. My parents got me a beginner-level tumbler so I could polish the random rocks I’d find in the backyard, and when I wasn’t satisfied with their luster, I got to pick out a pre-polished stone at The Nature Company in the mall. It seems Vanessa Hudgens is just now going through a similar obsession with rocks—it’s never too late, really—and with that obsession comes lots of inspiration for manicures.
You may recall, a few weeks ago, when Hudgens had Los Angeles-based nail artist Zola Ganzorigt create an incredibly dynamic manicure that was inspired by a moonstone and opal ring the actor has. But there are just too many other beautiful kinds of rocks out there to stop at just one stone-inspired mani.
On Wednesday, March 12, Hudgens posted a video to her Instagram Stories showing off Ganzorigt’s latest (polish) stroke of genius: a manicure inspired by tiger’s eye. “POV—you’re obsessed with stones and making your nails match em,” she wrote.
Tiger’s eye, according to Merriam-Webster, is a “yellowish to brown chatoyant stone that consists of silicified crocidolite”—which doesn’t really help explain it as much as I’d hoped it would. (Chatoyant! Silicified crocidolite! I should have paid more attention in earth science class.) Let’s put it this way: it’s one of the most beautiful variegated stones out there, and Ganzorigt totally nailed (no pun intended) the look.
If you need proof of how well the manicure was executed, Hudgens is literally holding a tiger’s eye between two of her fingers, making it look almost as if she has a sixth nail.
